Regular prize conditions (see below) apply.

The best overall contributor in 2002 will be awarded a $100 cash prize.

The most outstanding Expert for 2002 will be awarded a $100 cash prize.

Details: Our editorial team will select the most outstanding user Expert during our meeting in the first week of January 2003. Experts are users who are knowledgeable about a particular literature author and who volunteer their time to assist in developing the site and communicating with other literature enthusiasts. Please read further about the Expert network and the expectations of Expert volunteers. Experts will be assessed on the following criteria: level of communication with other users, evidence of assisting with developing the author site, and demonstrating an outstanding literary knowledge of the author and his or her works.

The user who submits a photograph of themselves in the most random place holding a sign reading “LiteratureClassics.com” will be awarded a $100 cash prize.

Details: A fun one for those of you who travel a lot (or know of some interesting places near your home). Simply take a photo of yourself in a random place (the phrase ‘random place’ has been used intentionally to keep a broad scope of possibilities – it can be a well-known place, or just an interesting place that no-one else even knows about). In the photo you must holding a sign reading “LiteratureClassics.com”. The sign can be made out of anything and does not need to be large but must be legible in the photo. You will need to email us with a digital copy of your photo. If you do not have a digital camera or scanner, please email us to request a mailing address. Regular prize conditions (see below) apply.

The best creative writing piece (submitted any year) will be awarded a $50 Amazon.com book voucher.

Details: At the end of 2002, our creative writing editor will select the most outstanding piece of creative writing from our database. All creative writing will be considered, even those pieces which were submitted prior to 2002. In order to be considered for this prize, the creative writing piece must have a very good average user rating (of at least 4). However, user rating will not be the only criterion. Our editor will also take into consideration the originality of the piece and the quality of the writing. Regular prize conditions (see below) apply.

Three times a year (on 30 April, 31 August and 31 December) a random contributor will be drawn and awarded a $50 cash prize.

Details: On the three dates specified, our system will choose a registered LiteratureClassics.com user at random. Each contributor point which a user has will give them one place in the draw (if you have ten contributor points, you're ten times more likely to win than someone who has one contributor point). You get contributor points by submitting essays and creative writing items (you get one contributor point for every 'star' in the editorial rating your essay is given, and one for every creative writing item submitted). Regular prize conditions (see below) apply.

The essay which has a question that most stumps us in 2002 will be awarded a $25 Amazon.com book voucher.

Details: Many of the essays submitted to LiteratureClassics.com are in answer to a particular question. Essays which clearly state the question in the essay description will be considered by our editorial team at our meeting in the first week of January 2003. We will select an essay which poses a question that we would find extremely difficult to answer but which has been answered admirably in the essay text. Regular prize conditions (see below) apply.

The best posts on the Forums will each be awarded a $25 Amazon.com book voucher.

Details: Any user who writes the ‘best’ post on our literature Forums will be awarded this prize. ‘Best’ will not be defined and rather left as is to include a broad range of possibilities (we might give it to the most humorous post, to the most interesting post, to the post which most adequately answers a question another user has posed, or to none of the above). Posts must be on-topic (i.e., about or related to literature) in order to qualify. We hope to award this prize more than once to as many outstanding posts as possible.
