Most essays are submitted by LiteratureClassics.com users. (You can submit your
own essay by choosing submit from the menu.) Keep in mind the following
when looking for and reading essays:
Quality
Essays are of varying quality. We ask that users who submit essay provide some
information about their background (degrees attained, courses studying, etc.)
but this information is not required. As a result, you may find it difficult to
determine whether a particular essay is authoritative or student-written. We
have a number of essays written by postgraduate students and a number written by
literature academics, and we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of
scholarly internet publishing. However, the majority of essays on our site are
written by students You should consider carefully the quality of every
essay you read before you make reference to it in your work.
Review
All essays are reviewed by our Editorial Team before they are included on the
site. However, this is not a compete scholarly review--our Team does not check
the accuracy of facts in the essay, nor does it make corrections to grammar and
spelling.
Editorial Ratings
When we review essays, we assign them an editorial rating on a scale from on to
five stars. The purpose of this rating is to indicate the relative value of
essays on the site. Generally, essays that receive an editorial rating of three
stars or more are recommended essays; that is, they contain scholarly analysis
of a text or author and may be useful. For a full list of the criteria used to
assess essays, read our editorial policy.
Citing
If you use an essay in your own work (that is, if you quote from an essay,
paraphrase part of an essay, or employ reasoning or ideas used in an essay), it
is absolutely essential that you cite the source. For more help on how to cite
an essay, choose cite this essay from the essay page.
Leaving Messages
If you have a question about an essay, your first step should be to post a
message at the bottom of the essay page (under the 'messages' heading). Taking a
message will take only seconds, and your comments will be visible to all the
other users who visit the page.
Contacting Authors
Most users who submit essays make their email address available on the author
page. (They can, however, opt not to.) If you have questions about the essay,
you may like to consider emailing the author. When you do so, you should explain
where you've found the essay. Don't abuse the generosity of the author by
sending multiple email messages, or by being abusive.
