Ernest Hemingway

1899 - 1961 *

composer of unique, succinct novels and short stories with an individuality and style that would shape American writing.


Ernest Hemingway’s prose is a product of his individuality. Hemingway was always obsessed with athletic prowess; he was good at sports when he was young, badly wounded in Italy when part of the Red Cross, and enjoyed bull-fighting and game-hunting.

His novels, crisp and simplistic in form, and his short stories, draw upon these experiences. These works deal with issues of human nature and life in a unique way.

Hemingway was awarded with the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. He committed suicide in 1961.

Famous American novelist, short-story writer and essayist, whose deceptively simple prose style have influenced wide range of writers. Hemingway was awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature, but he was unable to attend the award ceremony in Stockholm because he was recuperating from injuries sustained in an airplane crash while hunting in Uganda.
